PedWell Program

The Solution Image 1

Synergy’s PedWell Therapeutic Shoe Program, as a component of the broader Synergy Preventive Care Solutions Program, specifically promotes healthy feet and the avoidance of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in individuals diagnosed with diabetes. With a rate of 34% of diabetic individuals developing a diabetic foot ulcer during their lifetime1 and a national expenditure of $43.5 billion spent on lower extremity complications of diabetes annually, the need for a solution to reduce this costly complication of diabetes is evident.

Responsive, Strategic Approach

With a strong focus on customer needs and innovation, Synergy has established a unique preventive care Program that addresses the specific needs as expressed by various health organizations and health plans. In a market that is moving toward value-based care, Synergy is focused on providing a solution that is designed to close the gap in preventive care, specifically related to complications of diabetes, vascular conditions, and post-surgical patients. Our initial solutions address prevention of Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) in individuals diagnosed with diabetes and prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolisms (PEs) in vascular and post-surgical patients.

Robust, Qualified Fitter Network

With therapeutic shoe service originating as a retail business, most consumers are obtaining therapeutic shoes in store front locations or through small fitter networks. The Synergy network differs in that participants of the Synergy PedWell Program are fully vetted through a formal credentialing process before gaining admission into the Synergy network as a Qualified Fitter. All network participating fitters must adhere to Synergy corporate policies and procedures, which ensure expert services and HIPPA compliance. Synergy Qualified Fitters are also fully insured to provide services in a facility or remote location.

In addition to the importance of having quality clinicians, adequate access is another key component in establishing and managing a robust network. In the current environment, there is a serious lack of access to Qualified Fitters which results in insufficient access to therapeutic shoe service for plan members/patients. Synergy’s PedWell Program was established in response to this significant gap in service. To meet this market need, Synergy has established fitter/provider relationships with Qualified Fitters stationed around the country to effectively serve individuals as well as our regional and national customer base.

Operations and Claims Management Expertise

Through an automated operational platform, with an integrated mapping/scheduling application and comprehensive claims system, Synergy can quickly process referrals, obtain physician orders, identify an available Qualified Fitter, and schedule fitting services in a timely and efficient manner. This efficient, paperless process ensures a quick turnaround time in services and allows for rapid scaling to accommodate new customers and product lines.

Introducing Unique Proactive Prevention Programs

Through the provision of high-quality therapeutic shoes and orthotic inserts, as well as anti-thrombotic devices, Synergy improves related health outcomes for consumers and creates significant cost savings for health plans, and other payor/customer types. In addition to competitive pricing, Synergy creates even greater savings through the implementation of our proactive, preventive care models. These Programs identify the eligible population base and offer a proactive outreach as the Program delivery model. This proactive approach further promotes a cost reduction through the opportunity to impact downstream costs, thereby creating a larger savings opportunity. It is the combination of Synergy’s strategic preventive approach combined with a flexible operating platform and an expansive, qualified provider network that truly sets Synergy apart from its competitors.
